Being Safe is the first topic I would like to take time to go over with you.
Woodburning pens get very HOT, it is important to not touch the tip while burning because you will get burnt, which is not a very good feeling. Make sure that the pen is turned off and even unplug it for extra assurance. Before changing the tip, cool it down with a damp rag.
Ventilate your work area with a fan to draw the fumes away from you. Some woods contain glues and sealants that will emit fumes that can be irritating to the eyes and even your lungs while you are burning.
Try not to point the fan directly at the piece you are working on, doing so will cool the tip down making it difficult to achieve the results that you are trying to obtain.
While sanding the piece of wood try to always make it a habit of wearing Safety Glasses. Sanding on the wood can cause small particles to become air borne resulting in irritation to the eyes and even permanent damage. Remember you only have one set of eyes so please take care of them.
